I have a doctor's appointment this week. I scheduled it of my own accord.

Those of you who know me realize -- this is unusual behavior.

My usual behavior looks like this:

Me: "I don't feel that bad."

My Boy: "You have a fever of 104."

M: "I think the thermometer's broken."

MB: "I think your eyes are turning yellow."

M: "Maybe I just need a little nap."

MB: "Maybe you just need to get in the car."

M: "Fine."

MB: "Where did you hide the keys this time?"

M: "The keys? What keys?..."

Sadly, my idea of good health is, if I ignore this -- it will go away.

I wonder what would have happened if My Boy had taken that approach when I first started stalking him? If I ignore her, she will go away...

Wait a minute. Bad analogy. Because I wasn't going anywhere.

The point is, I'm trying to work on the whole health thing.

I can do this. I can do this.

Now where'd I put those keys?

What are some healthy habits you're trying to develop? Or... dare I ask -- what's your worst doctor's visit story?

I'm sure this will not happen to you. It only seems to happen to me. But twice, after a routine blood draw for routine bloodwork, I've fainted. Out cold. And once, I fainted so hard I fell off the examining table. Now I know to warn my medical staff in advance: "I'm a fainter!" Then I pretend I don't notice their disdain.

I've been trying to eat a vegetarian diet for a little while for fun, and I've been running a lot more. I bet you knew that though. ;)

As for embarrassing Dr. stories...I went to the hospital 3 times thinking I was in labor. The last time I really was. It was embarrassing to keep calling and coming, only to find out I wasn't "really" in labor.

Kristy - Thanks for stopping by. Your blog is a lot of fun! I'm glad to know you're out there now. :) I used to draw blood at the hospital, and trust me - we'd much rather know you're a fainter BEFORE it happens.

Christy - You put the rest of us to shame with your healthy habits. Don't worry about the premature labor thing. That is TOTALLY going to be me, and America will TOTALLY laugh at me. :)

I am trying to develop the habit of getting up and starting my day with Jesus. He's my flax, my quinoa, my ever-present rye in time of need.

He gets me goin'.

I have a "thing" (pretty much a phobia) when it comes to doctors and dentists and don't admit to needing one until I absolutely can't ignore the problem any longer, so I can sympathize with your delay tactics. Ativan has been prescribed so that I can get to my appointments. It doesn't help, though, when I take it and then am so zonked that I fall en route and need the doctor to stitch me up before he can deal with the original problem!

My current health emphasis is to get out for walks periodically throughout the day instead of staying cloistered inside with my computer. It has the extra benefit of refreshing my brain as well as my body.

Jess - Well said! The weekends are the hardest time for me to keep that habit. But it's oh-so-wonderful!

Careann - I totally understand your "thing". I had the same "thing". Then I married a boy whose parents are... uhuh you guessed it... doctors. My fear has evaporated because the in-laws awesome! And walking is a great thing. I need to implement that more too. Thanks for commenting!

I know all about waiting--for the right guy, for high school to end, for my boobs to come in (two out of three ain't bad).
