A Wedding!

These 2 wonderful people got married last weekend!

It was a fun wedding... and those are 2 words I've never used in combination before. Fun. Wedding.

To be honest, I was never a romantic. When I was single I tolerated weddings at best. (In my own words, "I'm NEVER getting married. And if I do, I will be by ELOPEMENT ONLY.")

I hated the preparation. The bridesmaids nervously walking down the aisle. Then, the big moment: when the doors opened and the bride and groom saw each other single for the last time. Why was it such a BIG DEAL?

Something surprised me this weekend, though.

The moment the bride appeared in the doorway, my heart did flip-flops as it all flooded back to me.

My Boy. My best friend. Waiting for me. The other half of me that had been missing for so long.

I love him.

He is the light of my life. Every day of my life. And I'm honored to have spent the last 2 years by his side.

I didn't spend much of the weekend by his side because of all the wedding prep, but here's a picture of us at the reception.

In the meantime, I loved getting to know his friends and the people who are so special to him.

Congrats, N & R. May God bless every step you take along this beautiful, rugged path together.

Question for 2Day:

What's your take on weddings?

I happen to love all things wedding as long as everyone doesn't get so caught up in the stuff/details that they lose focus on what is actually happening...the commitment. Weddings should be as low stress and enjoyable as possible in my opinion. :)

I love weddings! I think in a way my least favorite was mine, though. I'm so glad I married my best friend, but it was way more work than other weddings where you just show up. lol And I was super nervous. *sigh*

I don't like weddings. When it comes to representing the people involved, I have to admit, funerals do a much better job. In a world full of creativity, it grieves me to see so many cookie cutter weddings! I enjoy celebrating love and marriage but any ceremony that blindly follows tradition without an ounce of unique perspective gets a major thumbs-down from me.

Stephanie - I agree about the low-stress! I loved that my wedding was pretty low-stress... not stress-free, but low-stress.

Christy - Aww... I understand nervous! And I agree that it's more enjoyable when you're a spectator most of the time! :)

Hannah - LOL, I actually thought of you when I wrote this post. I knew you would say this!! :)

I go to one wedding a year and that's it. I simply cannot handle more than that. They stress me out.

I love weddings! I am a hopeless romantic and I'm just the opposite, I love all the preparation with the walking of the parents to their seats, the bridesmaids, and finally the bride. I was recently in a wedding in March and it was so special because it was my best friend from high school getting married. It was such a beautiful wedding.

Of course, I'm still single and I know everything leading UP to the wedding is super stressful (my newlywed friend can attest to this). But since I haven't experienced that yet, I can still pretend I'm going to enjoy every second of it. :)

Anonymous, thanks for your comment. I'm tryin' to figure out who you are and if I know you by your statement. (Probably not, because most of my friends love weddings... =)

Stephany, it really doesn't have to be stressful... so you can live in that happy place in real life too! :) My wedding day wasn't TOO stressful and nothing terrible happened. I was almost disappointed there was nothing funny to write about ;)

I know all about waiting--for the right guy, for high school to end, for my boobs to come in (two out of three ain't bad).
